We are very pleased to inform our clients that the stage lighting and suspension plants of the prestigious international project of Astana Auditorium in Kazakhstan was successfully completed by our staff on site during the month of March.
We want to thank Kruger Hogh & Tiefbau Gmbh, General Contractor of this prestigious international project, for its continuous trust in our company.
Thanks to similar previous projects, and in particular the Auditorium Parco della Musica of Rome, The General contractor assigned us the complete technical lighting system : lighting fixtures, lighting and audio suspension systems, lighting control and training. IANIRO was also assigned the supply and installation of the theatrical dimmered and direct electrical distribution.
Our works were completed in March 2010.
Description of the project
This architectural project features a scenic tower by the original design, within which we installed 27 gimbal hoists for the suspension of the acoustic reflectors and 15 hoists for the suspension of the lighting trusses. Additionally the supply included chain lift motors for a 16mt cinematographic screen and the central cluster, and 10 cable motors for the audio satellites.
The stage tower is built in panels of cherry, volcano shaped ; these panels, as they climb the stage to the lighting grid, halve the mouth of the volcano and limit the space where to get the technical equipment.
This architectural design has thus been a long joint work on various levels both during the design of the grid and during the installation of engines, as we had to take specific points for the correct location of our motors with a laser pointer that gave us the coordinates X and Y.
Even our trusses engineering has taken account of this architectural context, thanks to a layout in harmony with the mouth of the volcano and the acoustic reflectors as you can see the floor plan.
Six synchronized motors moved a structure with 6 acoustic reflectors for a total weight of 6 t..
Obviously the variable speed motors were provided of a soft start system to start and finish at low speed, thus avoiding the "water hammer".
A synoptic touch screen allows the storage of various heights. Another 28 hoists were used to support the acoustic curtains for noise distribution so that, according to the affluence of the audience, the curtains can be lowered while keeping the noise at an optimal level and making the vision of the hall (3,500 seats) nicely full, without blanks.
Above is a room with dimmer control unit, with power board of 1.600A with feeds 2 dimmer
racks, the direct sockets board, the services board and all motors boards. The electrical system delivers more than 200 utilities in regulated at various levels, always taking into account the respect of hall architectural design. The control signal is distributed via a patch-ethernet DMX & Back Up ; it runs from the dimmer room and reaches the control room via several signal distribution panels and via a power board for the lighting trusses.
The control room, stage front, has 2 lighting consoles, in back up one to the other, and the ethernet DMX control signal. The stage lights are all selected to the state of our industry: the profiles are all optical type, part of which is motorized; the moving heads, both wash and spot, are silenced type by High End Systems. Some are high luminous efficiency 2.5 kW discharge. In fact The first Showguns 2,500W by High End Systems, powerful discharge fixtures with an additional crown of 54 LEDs for diffused lighting, made their first international appearance at Astana.
Sixty Fresnel lenses complete the range of stage lights, especially 2000W, obviously all of our manufacturing; then followspots discharge from 2.500W, cyclorama diffusers ... etc. totaling over 150 units. These were finally integrated with fog and smoke machine effects.
The electrical system of the imposing foyer, over 3,500 square meters elegantly finished, includes our 150 96W LED bars for a sensational effect, due of course to Nicoletti architectural design and the builder of the huge and impressive building, Mabetex, not new to the business of special constructions and renovations.

About Astana State Auditorium
Way back in 2003, Studio Nicoletti won a competition to construct Kazakhstan State Auditorium in the capital city of Astana. Now completed, the State Auditorium is built into an imposing structure, as bit unique as it is colossal. Located in the city on the steppes, the auditorium’s structure is shaped like petals of a flower. The structure encloses an internal piazza that is home to numerous shops, restaurants, exhibition halls and two cinemas.
The auditorium itself has 3,500 seats, composed of wood in and out. Astana is a city that is built on the system of piazzas and the auditorium’s structure is in harmony with the city’s system of public squares. Even the internal arrangements of the auditorium complement its facade. The wood-paneled ceiling has a space beneath that regulates acoustic absorption.
The exterior is adorned with glass panels that serve the dual purpose of reflecting the environment and simultaneously providing protection against steppe’s salty winds. Wait till it is completed, the cold desert will surely witness some flocking tourists then! Till then suffice yourself with the images in the gallery below.
